Matthew Tomatz has worked as a psychotherapist on the staff of Counseling and Psychiatric Services at the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµ18 since 2008.
In Colorado, Tomatz is licensed as a Professional Counselor and as an Addictions Counselor, and he is a Certified Group Psychotherapist. Before beginning his career as a psychotherapist in 2001, he served as the Assistant Dean of the Aspen Music Festival and School and was a member of their staff for six years. Tomatz earned a Master of Arts in Psychology (Naropa University), a Master of Music Performance/Trumpet (University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music) and Bachelor of Music in Music Education (University of Houston Moores School of Music). He is also a certified yoga teacher and trained meditation instructor. Ìý
Tomatz draws on experiences as a psychotherapist, educator, yoga and meditation instructor, and group facilitator to cultivate a unique way of working with musicians and the challenges they face. Tomatz combines a variety of therapeutic techniques and a multicultural approach to assist musicians in becoming dynamic and confident performers and teachers. Over the last 11 years, he has worked with hundreds of music students through the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµ18 College of Music and its Musicians’ Wellness Program (MWP) where he now serves as the college's embedded therapist.
Through the MWP, Tomatz conducts popular groups (Developing the Whole Musician) in which he employs a therapeutic model that he developed and has presented on nationally including at the American Group Psychotherapy Association.
